The Baiting Hollow Club is a privately owned members-only golf club on the North Shore of Long Island, about 10 miles from the Hamptons. A Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed course on the bluffs above the Long Island Sound, a 25,000 square foot clubhouse, good indoor and outdoor spaces, and a patio that I genuinely loved shooting on. I have photographed here, and we also took portraits at the Peconic Herb Farm nearby, which is one of the better off-site portrait locations in the area. More at baitinghollowclub.com.
About the Venue
The Baiting Hollow Club was originally founded in 1964 when 150 local residents pooled their resources to buy land and build the course. The Robert Trent Jones Sr. design has been restored in recent years, and the current 25,000-square-foot clubhouse opened in 2008. The club sits on the bluffs of Long Island’s North Shore with Long Island Sound views and the kind of rolling, wooded landscape that photographs beautifully in every season.
The Spaces
The clubhouse has good indoor event spaces with the character you expect from a well-established private club. The patio is where I want to spend as much of the day as possible. The views of the course and the surrounding landscape from that patio are genuinely excellent for portraits and for ceremony coverage. The combination of indoor and outdoor settings gives the day real visual variety.
Off-Site Portraits: Peconic Herb Farm
We took portraits at the Peconic Herb Farm during this wedding, and it was one of the better decisions of the day. The farm is in Peconic on the North Fork, a short drive from the club. Lavender fields, herb gardens, and the specific quality of North Fork light in the afternoon. It is the kind of portrait location that makes images look completely different from anything shot at the venue itself and is worth building into your timeline if you have the flexibility.
