New York Bridal Portraits

Creating New York bridal portraits has been a love of mine since I moved to the city in 2008.

When you think about New York bridal portraits, you think about taking a few moments out of your wedding day to make a few images of you alone in your dress.  This is a fairly standard part of any wedding day’s coverage, and something that most wedding photographers know to create.

However, this doesn’t always go as planned!  What happens if hair and makeup happen to run late?  What happens if your fifteen minutes of bridal portrait time disappears in a flurry of getting ready and rushing out out the door to your ceremony?  No matter how wonderfully laid your timeline plans, how helpful your coordinator, and how efficient your photographer, when you run out of time…well, you’re out of time!

So many things can disrupt this time of the day, and something that everyone desired to be a peaceful moment of portraits either doesn’t happen, or happens in a flurry of nerves.  I adore taking wedding day bridal portraits or images of grooms alone, but there is something to be said about my favorite southern tradition…the bridal portrait session.

Whether you’d like to book this session before or after your wedding date, a bridal portrait session is a great opportunity to create some fashion-based, Vanity-Fair-style modern bridal portraits of you in your gown.  It’s a time to breathe, relax, and enjoy!  From hair and makeup to the shoot itself, it’s a wonderful chance to celebrate this amazing time in your life.

Most bridal sessions take place in the studio. We do have incredible outdoor areas for additional images, should you so desire!

These sessions take place in my studio in Industry City, Brooklyn. You’ll begin with hair and makeup, and then we’ll create some unique bridal portraits without any time constraints of the actual wedding day.
I have also had the opportunity to create many portraits of grooms over my years as a wedding photographer. This session doesn’t have to be just for brides, it’s an incredible time to create portraits of grooms as well!

If you’re looking to have your bridal or groom portraits taken, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  I’d love to talk to you about your session and let you know a bit more about myself and my studio. I hope to meet you soon!

Connect with us on social media!

Sharing images as a wedding photographer used to be incredibly easy.  You had your website, maybe a Facebook page, probably a blog.  All new content immediately got a blog post…and that was pretty much it!  Now there are so many ways to share images, be social, and connect with clients and friends.

To see daily updates of our current weddings and images, follow us on Instagram.  I adore Instagram, and only post wedding and portrait-related images on our business account.  Since we don’t currently really use Snapchat (I’m susanstripling there, but rarely post), Instagram is the best way to get an overview of our current work!

Dancer Portraits

Dance has been a part of my life since I can remember.  I took dance as a child, and have vivid memories of yearly dance recitals at Chambers Performing Arts.  When I majored in theatre in college, dance was a huge part of that life.  Since leaving college and those dance days behind, I’ve missed it. I don’t miss performing, and I don’t regret not pursuing a career in theatre.  I do miss the beauty of dance, the tremendous athletic strength, and the glorious grace of movement.  I’ve been working with dancers in my Brooklyn studio recently, and have been loving every second!

Asha Dance Company
Bridgette Duncan has performed with the Philadanco Second Company and Asha Dance Company. She is also wickedly funny, immensely charming, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Radio City Christmas Spectacular
The lovely Laura Henning was most recently in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular as a Rockette. She’s flawlessly graceful, and a joy to watch.
Megz Alfonso
Megan “Megz” Alfonso is a phenomenally gifted dancer and choreographer. She’s headed to Vegas with So You Think You Can Dance, and our fingers are crossed that she makes the top 20! Brittney Field is Megz’s teaching assistant, but she is an amazingly accomplished dancer and performer in her own right.
Joffrey Ballet
Nina Chong has studied with the Joffrey Ballet, and is a recent college graduate.
Nilaya Sabnis
Nilaya toured with Madonna on the Sticky and Sweet World Tour. She is a stunning dancer, mastering more genres than I can count, and a very sweet, sweet woman.
Kayla Fields
Kayla Fields is the most graceful, talented teenager that I’ve ever met. Those feet! Those arms! Those perfect hands!
Priscilla Curtis
Priscilla Curtis has an extraordinary resume, taking her from my hometown of Atlanta all the way up to New York. She’s headed on tour with The Producers this fall, and she’s going to be AMAZING.
Bharata Natyam soloist
Nilaya was also in Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion. How cool is that? She is also a Bharata Natyam soloist, and to watch her dance is a completely incredible experience.
Christopher Tilley
Christopher Tilley is not only an accomplished dancer, but a fantastic resume writer. His resume includes cartwheels, cooking, and horse riding. He’s an all-around great guy, and a very talented performer.

Nina was such a joy to photograph. She’s elegant, incredibly sweet, and so very, very talented.

It has been great fun working with these talented performers in the studio, and I look forward to more commissioned portraits.  If you’re a dancer and want to learn more about scheduling a portrait session, just contact us!

Brooklyn Portrait : Sara

It was a joy to work with Sara on her Brooklyn portrait today.  I first met her at my husband’s workshop back in 2008 or 2009, when she and her then-boyfriend-now-fiance were models.  Sara has always been beautiful, charming, funny and fun, and it was a joy to work with her today.  Sara, you’re welcome in the studio any time!

Baby E

Little did I know when I photographed their wedding years ago, that I’d be back to photograph baby #1….and now baby #2!

Modern Boudoir Sessions : Now Available

For so long I had been looking for a studio space in Brooklyn.  Everything I saw was either too small, too outrageous, too industrial, or not industrial enough.  It wasn’t until earlier this year that I began sharing the perfect studio space in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, with a dear friend.  I have been photographing boudoir sessions for years now, but always either in the clients’ home or a hotel room.  I now have the ideal space, and the studio is officially open for bookings.

If you are interested in receiving more information about my boudoir photography services, please drop me an email or give me a call.

I’d love to see you in the studio soon!

Brooklyn Boudoir
The studio is quiet, private, and occasionally even has fog.
New York Boudoir
If you’re looking for something different for your boudoir photography, you’ve absolutely come to the right place. It’s a little gritty, a lot dramatic, and very, very New York. See you soon!

Mt. Airy Bridal Session : Kelly

I have loved working with Kelly from her engagement images to her wedding and now at her phenomenal Mt. Airy bridal session.  A bridal session post-wedding, you might ask?  Absolutely – and when you look at this image I’m sure you can see why!  In order to not ruin Kelly’s dress before the wedding day we had to hold off until later in the year to photograph her bridal session.  I think it was well worth the wait!

Bride with Horse
The horse really IS bowing. No Photoshop bows here, folks.
