I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Hey, I'm susan!

Riverside Farm Wedding Photographer

If someone asked me to name one wedding venue in the Northeast I’d recommend without hesitation, it would be Riverside Farm. I’ve photographed there more times than I can count. I keep going back. That’s the whole review.

Riverside Farm is located in Pittsfield, Vermont, a small town in Rutland County surrounded by the Green Mountains. It’s about four hours from New York City and worth every minute of the drive. More at riversidefarmvermont.com.

About Riverside Farm

Originally established in the 1700s as a working farm, the property has been transformed into a destination wedding venue without losing any of its character. The barns are real barns. The covered bridge is a real covered bridge. The mountain views are the actual Green Mountains. Nothing here feels manufactured or theme-park rustic. It feels like Vermont because it is Vermont.

The farm offers on-site lodging, which changes the whole texture of a wedding weekend. Couples and their guests can stay on the property. The morning after looks different when everyone is still there.

The Ceremony Spaces

The Meadow

An open natural space with sweeping mountain views. Best for larger ceremonies and couples who want that wide-open Vermont landscape as their backdrop. The light here in late afternoon is extraordinary.

The Barn

A beautifully restored barn for indoor ceremonies. Exposed beams, warm wood, timeless. It works in any weather and photographs beautifully regardless of light conditions outside.

The Pond

A serene water-feature ceremony space surrounded by trees. Intimate and quiet. The reflections in the water add a dimension to ceremony photos that you don’t get anywhere else on the property.

Places to stay near Riverside Farm

The farm itself has on-site lodging — keep as many guests on property as possible. For overflow:

Amee Farm Lodge

Less than a mile away. Restored farmhouse, rustic charm, scenic Vermont views. The closest option to the venue.

The Trailside Inn

About 3 miles away. More modern aesthetic, variety of room types, close to hiking and biking trails.

Swiss Farm Inn

About 4 miles away. Family-run bed and breakfast with homemade breakfasts and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.

Clear River Inn

About 5 miles away. On-site bar and restaurant, laid-back setting, good for guests who want convenience.

Mountain Top Inn and Resort

About 15 miles away. Full resort with spa, equestrian center, and mountain views. For guests who want a complete experience beyond the wedding weekend.

These accommodations provide convenience for events at Riverside Farm and offer a variety of atmospheres, from rustic to modern, ensuring that every guest finds a comfortable place to stay.

The Reception Spaces

The Red Barn

The main reception space. Classic barn bones — exposed beams, lofty ceilings, a grand warm atmosphere. It photographs with depth and dimension, especially once the evening light comes up.

The Brown Barn

Smaller and more intimate. Beautiful wooden interiors, cozy energy. Better suited for smaller guest counts where you want the space to feel full rather than vast.

Outdoor Tents

Available in warmer months on the property grounds. A fully customizable outdoor reception option with the Vermont landscape as your ceiling.

The Photo Locations

This is where Riverside Farm is genuinely extraordinary. Most venues give you two or three strong portrait backdrops. Riverside Farm gives you eight.

The Barns

The weathered wood, the beams, the scale. Both the interiors and exteriors photograph beautifully. The silhouette of a barn against a Vermont sky is one of the most consistently beautiful images I make here.

The Meadow

Open sky, rolling hills, mountain backdrop. The golden hour light in this meadow is some of the best natural light I work with anywhere in the Northeast.

The Covered Bridge

A quintessential New England detail. The enclosed structure creates naturally framed shots. The light filtering through the slats does something specific and beautiful. I use this for intimate portraits every time I’m here.

The Pond and Streams

Water adds reflection and tranquility. The still pond mirrors the surrounding landscape and sky. The streams give you texture and movement. Both are within easy walking distance of the main spaces.

The Gardens

Meticulously maintained. Different flowers bloom in different seasons so the garden always looks like something different. The winding paths create natural leading lines through portraits.

The Orchard

Rows of trees that are extraordinary in spring bloom and equally beautiful in fall color. The perspective the orchard creates — those receding lines of trees — gives portraits depth that a single backdrop can’t.

The Mountain Views

The Green Mountains behind everything. Grand and cinematic. There are spots on this property where you can put the whole range behind a couple and the image looks like it belongs in a film.

Architectural Details

Stone walls, wooden fences, antique farm equipment. These aren’t just props — they’re part of the property’s actual history and they ground every image in a specific sense of place.

Why I Keep Coming Back

Most venues are beautiful. Riverside Farm is special. The covered bridge and the gardens give you intimate portrait moments that feel genuinely private. The meadow and the mountain views give you grand sweeping images. The barns give you warm, interior coverage that works in any weather.

The natural flow of the property means I can move through the whole day without losing momentum. Everything is close. The transitions are short. Nothing is staged.

And there’s something about the place itself — the history, the mountains, the sense that this land has been cared for for three hundred years — that shows up in the photographs whether you’re trying to capture it or not.

I’ve photographed summer weddings here and fall weddings here. Both are extraordinary. If I had to pick one season: fall. The foliage in the Green Mountains combined with this property is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever pointed a camera at. My fall wedding at Riverside Farm post shows exactly what I mean.

Frequently Asked Questions: Riverside Farm Weddings

Where is Riverside Farm located?

In Pittsfield, Vermont — a small town in Rutland County surrounded by the Green Mountains, about four hours from New York City. More at riversidefarmvermont.com.

What kind of venue is Riverside Farm?

A historic working farm established in the 1700s that has been transformed into a destination wedding venue. The property includes multiple ceremony spaces, two barns for receptions, on-site lodging, a covered bridge, a pond, meadows, an orchard, and Green Mountain views throughout. It’s a full buyout venue — your wedding is the only event on the property.

Does Riverside Farm have on-site lodging?

Yes — and this is one of the most distinctive things about it. Couples and their guests can stay on the property, which makes the whole wedding weekend feel genuinely different from a venue where everyone disperses at the end of the night. The morning after is part of the experience.

What is the best time of year for a Riverside Farm wedding?

Both summer and fall are extraordinary. Summer gives you lush green meadows, long golden evenings, and the full bloom of the gardens and orchard. Fall gives you Green Mountain foliage that is genuinely one of the most beautiful natural backdrops I’ve ever photographed against. If I had to choose: fall. The foliage combined with this specific property is something else entirely.

What are the best photo locations at Riverside Farm?

The covered bridge for intimate portraits. The meadow at golden hour for sweeping mountain views. The barn exteriors for that Vermont silhouette. The orchard in bloom or in color. The pond for reflections. Any of the stone walls and wooden fences for grounded, textured portraits. The honest answer is that it’s hard to take a bad photo anywhere on this property.

How far is Riverside Farm from New York City?

About four hours by car. There’s no direct public transit option to Pittsfield, Vermont, so most guests will drive or arrange transportation. Build guest logistics into your planning early.

What is the capacity at Riverside Farm?

The venue accommodates a range of wedding sizes across its ceremony and reception spaces. The Red Barn handles larger receptions; the Brown Barn is better suited for more intimate gatherings. Confirm current capacity directly with the venue for your specific configuration.

Is Riverside Farm good for destination weddings?

It’s one of the best destination wedding venues in the Northeast. The on-site lodging, the variety of spaces, the natural beauty, and the exclusivity of a full buyout all make it ideal for couples who want a genuine wedding weekend experience rather than a single-day event.

Do you photograph weddings at Riverside Farm regularly?

More times than I can count — it’s my favorite destination venue in the Northeast. If your wedding is at Riverside Farm, I’d love to hear about it. And for more on my destination work, my luxury destination wedding photographer post covers the full range of where I travel.
