I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Hey, I'm susan!

de Seversky Mansion Wedding Photographer

NYIT de Seversky Mansion on Northern Boulevard in Old Westbury, New York was built in 1918 as the private home of Alfred I. du Pont and is one of the last Gold Coast mansions still operating as a wedding venue on Long Island. Marble foyer with a grand staircase and mosaic inlays. The Glass Garden Room. The Ballroom with vaulted ceilings overlooking the east lawn. A Linden Tree ceremony location and a lake-view patio. One wedding per day. The only Gold Coast mansion that gives couples access to all rooms on the main floor for getting ready — and the light in those rooms is extraordinary. I have photographed here multiple times and it is a genuinely special venue.

About the Venue

Northern Boulevard, Old Westbury, New York, on Long Island’s historic Gold Coast. Built 1918 for Alfred I. du Pont. Purchased by New York Institute of Technology in 1972. One wedding per day. 100 to 300 guests. In-house catering by the NYIT culinary program. Valet parking included. Getting-ready rooms on the main floor — the only Gold Coast mansion offering full main floor access to the wedding party. Featured in The New York Times.

The Spaces

The marble foyer with the grand staircase and mosaic inlays is the arrival and portrait space. This staircase is one of the strongest architectural portrait locations in any Long Island wedding venue — the scale, the detail, and the light that falls across it create images that look like nothing else.

The Ballroom features vaulted ceilings and views of the east lawn. Used for ceremonies and receptions.

The Glass Garden Room is fully enclosed glass — indoor coverage with an unobstructed outdoor feel. Ideal for ceremonies and cocktail hours in any season.

The Patio overlooks the onsite lake and surrounding forest on the west side of the main house. Outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour option with natural landscape backdrop.

The Linden Tree ceremony location on the grounds — the mature tree’s cascading branches create a natural canopy for outdoor ceremonies with shade for guests.

The main floor getting-ready rooms receive extraordinary natural light. This is the detail that sets de Seversky apart from other Gold Coast estates — full access to multiple rooms across the main floor rather than a single designated suite.

The grand staircase in the marble foyer — one of the best portrait staircases of any Long Island venue. The mosaic inlay floors. The Glass Garden Room for ceremony or cocktail coverage. The Linden Tree outdoor ceremony. The Patio with lake views. The Ballroom under the vaulted ceiling with east lawn light. And the getting-ready rooms on the main floor, where the natural light in those historic windows is among the best I’ve worked with on Long Island. This is a venue where you can photograph in three or four completely different visual environments without leaving the building.

Northern Boulevard in Old Westbury, New York, on Long Island’s Gold Coast.

What is NYIT de Seversky Mansion?

A 1918 Gold Coast mansion built for Alfred I. du Pont, now owned by New York Institute of Technology and operated as a wedding venue. One wedding per day. 100 to 300 guests. Marble foyer with grand staircase, Glass Garden Room, Ballroom with vaulted ceilings, Patio overlooking the lake, Linden Tree outdoor ceremony location. Full main floor access for getting ready. What makes de Seversky Mansion distinctive?

It is one of the last remaining Gold Coast mansions still operating as a wedding venue on Long Island. The marble foyer staircase and mosaic inlays photograph at a level that most Long Island venues cannot match. The full main floor access for getting ready means the light you have access to is exceptional — multiple rooms with historic windows, not a single designated room. And the combination of indoor and outdoor options — Glass Garden Room, Linden Tree, lakeside patio, formal lawn — gives couples genuine flexibility without sacrificing character.

Do you photograph weddings at de Seversky Mansion?

Yes. I have photographed here multiple times and know the light in every room. If your wedding is here, I would love to hear about it.
