I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Destination Weddings in Santorini: Your Ultimate Guide

If you want to explore destination weddings in Santorini and see if it’s the right choice, this post is for you.

As a destination wedding photographer who’s captured love stories around the world, I see Santorini as one of the most beautiful places to say your “I do.” So, I’m sharing everything you need to know to make your planning easier.

Ready to dive into Santorini wedding venues, details, planning, and more? Let’s get started.

About destination weddings in Santorini

If you’ve ever pictured yourself surrounded by those iconic whitewashed buildings with blue domes, soaking up laid-back island vibes, and watching sunsets that leave you speechless, Santorini might just be the place for you.

Honestly, Lonely Planet got it right when they called Santorini “the supermodel of the Greek islands.”

The landscapes are stunning, and there’s no shortage of amazing wedding venues—from cozy wineries to boutique hotels and dreamy villas—perfect for making your special day exactly how you imagined it.

Santorini’s been around for 3,500 years, and its croissant shape means you’re treated to incredible sea views pretty much wherever you go.

It’s hard to think of a more romantic spot for a wedding. The weather’s almost always on your side for an outdoor ceremony, and the light here? It’s just magical—perfect for photographing those once-in-a-lifetime memories that you’ll make there.

Top 3 stunning Santorini wedding venues

While there’s a wide variety of venues in Santorini, here are my top pics.

Rocabella

Rocabella Hotel sits overlooking Santorini’s breathtaking Caldera—one of the five largest in the world and the biggest in Europe.

This means you get to say your vows with stunning cliffside views of the Aegean Sea and those unforgettable, time-stopping sunsets.

At Rocabella, you’ll find Cycladic minimalist design with a touch of understated luxury.

Here, you’ll be able to take advantage of the three beautiful outdoor areas: the Infinity Kiosk, the Infinity Pool, and the Exclusive Pool. Imagine hosting a stunning reception by the pool, with the sea as your backdrop.

The venue (as it’s a hotel) also offers accommodation, making it easy for you and your guests to stay right on site. You can host up to 200 guests and celebrate your special day surrounded by everyone you love.

Canaves Oia

If you’re dreaming of a small, intimate ceremony, this venue is perfect for you. The Oia area, once a humble fishing village, has grown into one of the most beautiful and sought-after spots for destination weddings in Santorini.

At this venue, you can host a stylish, family-vibe wedding with dreamy sea views all around.

At Canaves Oia, you can hold your reception with up to 30 guests on their Panorama Balcony—a private spot with breathtaking caldera views that make you feel like you’re floating above the sea.

For your reception dinner, they offer a separate area on the opposite side—the Caldera Arch. It’s the perfect spot for a cozy dinner where you can choose from a menu full of delicious dishes.

Just imagine dining with your closest loved ones, breathing in the salty air, feeling a gentle breeze, and watching the stunning sunsets. It’s a beautiful way to slow down, soak in the moment, and celebrate your love.

Venetsanos Winery

Now, let’s talk about Santorini’s best winery spot. Because honestly, who doesn’t love sipping a glass of red (or white!) while watching the sea with their loved ones?

If this sounds like your vibe, then you’ll love this venue. The best part? You get your wine straight from the producer, all while enjoying a stunning location.

Venetsanos Winery, the first industrial winery on the island, is perched on the cliffside of Megalochori, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and some of the most stunning sunsets you’ll ever see.

The venue’s earthy colors blend perfectly with Santorini’s volcanic rocks, creating a naturally beautiful setting.

You can host your wedding ceremony and reception on the Upper Terrace, which spans just under 2700 square feet and accommodates up to 120 guests.

The terrace is open on all sides, giving you wide, unobstructed views of the sea. They offer a great selection of drinks, but for food, you’ll need to bring in your own catering or ask for their list of recommended companies.

Planning Your Santorini Wedding

Let’s dive into all the little details you need to plan your Santorini wedding.

1. Plan with the seasons

So, when should you plan your wedding in Santorini?

It really comes down to your personal preferences and what you’re looking for. Generally, though, the best time to get married in Santorini is between April and October when the weather is warm and dry.

April, May, and October are considered shoulder season months.

During these months, you’ll find fewer crowds, the weather is still gorgeous, prices might be a bit lower, and venues may have more availability. In my opinion, these are the best months to visit.

The months in between—June, July, August, and September—are high season. If you’re thinking of a summer wedding, be sure to book everything well in advance. This is when all the businesses are open, and you’ll notice more tourists around.

The other six months of the year are the low season. It’s colder, and many businesses might be closed during this time.

2. Make sure you have the right documents

First things first, decide whether you want a symbolic ceremony or an official one.
Be sure to do your own research and make sure you fully understand the process as you are planning, as requirements can change at any time.

A symbolic ceremony is ideal if you’re already married and just want a unique celebration or ritual to mark your wedding. It’s pretty straightforward to plan and doesn’t require many documents.

If you’re opting for an official ceremony, you’ll be married on the island and receive a marriage certificate from the local municipality. And yes, as a U.S. citizen, you can get married in Greece!

Just keep in mind that your marriage certificate might take a few weeks to arrive, and you’ll need to gather some documents to make it all happen (you can find all the most up-to-date info on getting married in Greece here).

Also, be sure to check the visa requirements (as a U.S. citizen, you’re free to visit for up to 90 days) and book your flight tickets well in advance.

3. Book your vendors

Here comes the exciting part of the destination wedding planning process.

Your Photographer & Videographer

Make sure you capture every beautiful detail of your special day on this magical island by hiring a photographer whose work you truly love and trust.

If you’d like, you can even bring someone from your home country to join you on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, making sure every little moment is captured in the style you adore.

It’s always a good idea to meet with them before the wedding to share your vision and go over the details together.

Reserve your pastry chef and catering

Greece is famous for its incredible cuisine, so I highly recommend indulging in the amazing food the island has to offer.

You can either ask your venue to provide local dishes for your celebration or get recommendations for some fantastic local chefs and catering companies. Take your time to explore the options and choose the dishes that excite you the most.

Your Entertainment

Whether it’s live music, DJS, or other performers, make sure your entertainment reflects the atmosphere and vibe you want for your day. To book your artists with ease, ask your wedding planner to help you with this.

Book Your Airport Transfers

Don’t forget to arrange transportation for your arrival and throughout your stay. Your hotel or wedding planner can also handle these details.

Final thoughts on weddings in Santorini

Alright, that’s everything you need to know about destination weddings in Santorini and get started with planning. Just take some time to think about what you’re looking for, and choose your venue and timing accordingly.

And if you want to make this trip even more special, why not turn it into your honeymoon too? A beautiful, romantic getaway in Santorini sounds like the perfect way to celebrate.

Lastly, if you’re searching for a photographer who’ll capture all those tiny, heartfelt moments, creating images filled with emotion that you’ll cherish forever, I’d love to be a part of your celebration.
