The Cescaphe Ballroom is a converted 1920s theater in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood with cathedral ceilings, crystal chandeliers draped in pearls, a grand staircase entry, Juliet balconies overlooking the ballroom, and a floor-to-ceiling bar. Part of the Cescaphe Event Group, which operates eight Philadelphia venues and over 700 weddings per year. The cocktail hour-and-a-half is a Cescaphe signature. I have photographed here in the rain and in full sun, and it works beautifully in both.
About the Venue
The Cescaphe Ballroom is located on Mt. Vernon Street in Philadelphia, just outside downtown in the Fishtown area. Originally built as an ornate theater in the 1920s, it was transformed by the Cescaphe Event Group into one of the city’s most distinctive wedding venues. Capacity is 150 to 300 guests. Full-service event management, including an Event Manager, Event Coordinator, Event Chef, Maitre D’, and a dedicated head server for the wedding couple’s parents.
The Space
Cathedral ceilings. Crystal chandeliers draped in pearls. Antiqued brass hardware. Hardwood floors. Painted columns. A floor-to-ceiling bar. A 30-foot mahogany food library for cocktail hour with chef-attended stations. A candlelit ceremony stage. A grand staircase for the entrance. Juliet balconies overlooking the full ballroom.
The Cescaphe team is a master at the room flip — transitioning the space from ceremony to reception is seamless. Couples can do everything from the ceremony through the final dance without leaving the building.
The Cescaphe Cocktail Hour
The signature cocktail hour and a half is one of the most talked-about aspects of any Cescaphe wedding. The 30-foot mahogany food library with chef-attended stations, customizable ice sculpture, full-service bar, and raw bar. Guests consistently describe it as the highlight of the night. For food-focused couples, this is a meaningful differentiator.
Photography at the Cescaphe Ballroom
The grand staircase for the entrance and formal portraits. The Juliet balconies for overhead shots of the ballroom. The candlelit ceremony stage. The chandeliers and cathedral ceiling from the dance floor. The floor-to-ceiling bar for cocktail hour coverage. And Fishtown itself for exterior portraits, with the cobblestone streets and brick facades adding urban texture. A short drive to City Hall or Broad Street for additional portrait locations.
On a rainy day, the Cescaphe Ballroom is one of the best venues in Philadelphia. The interior is so richly designed that the weather is irrelevant. The diffused outdoor light on a cloudy day actually photographs beautifully through the windows.
The Other Cescaphe Venues
The Cescaphe Event Group operates eight Philadelphia venues: Cescaphe Ballroom, Tendenza, Vie, Down Town Club, Water Works, The Lucy, The Switch House, and The Grand Belle. Each has a distinct character and capacity range. If the Ballroom is not the right fit for your guest count or aesthetic, another Cescaphe venue likely is.
