Rock Island Lake Club in Sparta, New Jersey, is a private 11-acre lake venue tucked into the mountains of Northwestern NJ. One wedding per day. A natural birchwood arch ceremony site at the water’s edge. A 20-foot barrel ceiling grand ballroom with floor-to-ceiling lake views and inlaid Brazilian hardwood floors. A rowboat available for portraits. In autumn, when the foliage reflects off the lake, it is one of the most beautiful venues I photograph in New Jersey.

About the Venue
Located at 485 Glen Road in Sparta, New Jersey, in the Sparta Mountains of Northwestern NJ. About 45 miles from Hoboken and accessible from Routes 80, 15, and 23. A 14,000 square foot building established in 2014, renovated and purpose-built for weddings. One wedding per day. Up to 200 guests. All-inclusive packages with in-house catering, coordination, and wedding execution.

The Event Spaces
The ceremony site sits at the water’s edge of the private 11-acre lake with two islands and tree-lined shores. Vows are exchanged beneath a natural birchwood arch with unobstructed lake views. An indoor ceremony option with floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic lake views is available for inclement weather.
The cocktail lounge is bistro-inspired, featuring natural stone and stucco archways, unique chandeliers, a grand piano, and covered lakeside outdoor seating. Three bars with 30 beers on tap, including craft, seasonal, local, and gluten-free options. A 90-minute cocktail hour with full cold display, passed appetizers, and butcher blocks.
The grand ballroom has a 20-foot barrel ceiling, inlaid Brazilian hardwood floors with built-in uplighting, a towering wall bar display, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. One of the only New Jersey wedding venues with 100 percent hardwood floors throughout. The uplighting is widely considered a must.

The Getting-Ready Spaces
The Balcony Suite overlooks the lake with a private bathroom, full-length mirrors, a lounging area, and natural light. The Lakeside Lounge is the other partner’s getting-ready space and includes a television with video games, a popcorn machine, shuffleboard, and direct access to the lakeside grounds. Both spaces photograph well for morning coverage.

The birchwood arch ceremony site with the lake and islands behind the couple. The dock for first looks and portraits. The rowboat on the lake for romantic couple portraits. The grand ballroom under the barrel ceiling with the uplighting after dark. The foliage reflecting off the lake in October. The wooded paths and natural stone features of the grounds. And the swing tucked into the woods that couples consistently mention as one of their favorite portrait spots.

What makes Rock Island Lake Club distinctive?
The combination of the private lake setting and the genuine one-wedding-per-day commitment sets it apart from most New Jersey venues. The property feels removed from everything. The birchwood arch ceremony site at the water’s edge with unobstructed lake views is extraordinary. The ballroom, with Brazilian hardwood floors and a 20-foot barrel ceiling, is beautifully designed.
