I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Hey, I'm susan!

Rock Island Lake Club Wedding Photos

Rock Island Lake Club in Sparta, New Jersey, is a private 11-acre lake venue tucked into the mountains of Northwestern NJ. One wedding per day. A natural birchwood arch ceremony site at the water’s edge. A 20-foot barrel ceiling grand ballroom with floor-to-ceiling lake views and inlaid Brazilian hardwood floors. A rowboat available for portraits. In autumn, when the foliage reflects off the lake, it is one of the most beautiful venues I photograph in New Jersey.

Located at 485 Glen Road in Sparta, New Jersey, in the Sparta Mountains of Northwestern NJ. About 45 miles from Hoboken and accessible from Routes 80, 15, and 23. A 14,000 square foot building established in 2014, renovated and purpose-built for weddings. One wedding per day. Up to 200 guests. All-inclusive packages with in-house catering, coordination, and wedding execution.

The Event Spaces

The ceremony site sits at the water’s edge of the private 11-acre lake with two islands and tree-lined shores. Vows are exchanged beneath a natural birchwood arch with unobstructed lake views. An indoor ceremony option with floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic lake views is available for inclement weather.

The cocktail lounge is bistro-inspired, featuring natural stone and stucco archways, unique chandeliers, a grand piano, and covered lakeside outdoor seating. Three bars with 30 beers on tap, including craft, seasonal, local, and gluten-free options. A 90-minute cocktail hour with full cold display, passed appetizers, and butcher blocks.

The grand ballroom has a 20-foot barrel ceiling, inlaid Brazilian hardwood floors with built-in uplighting, a towering wall bar display, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. One of the only New Jersey wedding venues with 100 percent hardwood floors throughout. The uplighting is widely considered a must.

The Getting-Ready Spaces

The Balcony Suite overlooks the lake with a private bathroom, full-length mirrors, a lounging area, and natural light. The Lakeside Lounge is the other partner’s getting-ready space and includes a television with video games, a popcorn machine, shuffleboard, and direct access to the lakeside grounds. Both spaces photograph well for morning coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions: Rock Island Lake Club Weddings

Where is Rock Island Lake Club located?

485 Glen Road in Sparta, New Jersey, in the Sparta Mountains of Northwestern NJ. Accessible from Routes 80, 15, and 23. About 45 miles from Hoboken.

What is Rock Island Lake Club?

A private lakeside wedding venue on 11 acres in Sparta, NJ, with one wedding per day and up to 200 guests. Natural birchwood arch ceremony site at the water’s edge, separate cocktail lounge, grand ballroom with 20-foot barrel ceiling and Brazilian hardwood floors, two private getting-ready suites, rowboat for portraits, and all-inclusive packages with in-house catering and coordination.

What makes Rock Island Lake Club distinctive?

The combination of the private lake setting and the genuine one-wedding-per-day commitment sets it apart from most New Jersey venues. The property feels removed from everything. The birchwood arch ceremony site at the water’s edge with unobstructed lake views is extraordinary. The ballroom, with Brazilian hardwood floors and a 20-foot barrel ceiling, is beautifully designed. And in October, the foliage reflecting off the lake is some of the most photogenic scenery in the state.

What time of year is best for a Rock Island Lake Club wedding?

Fall is the obvious answer, and it is genuinely extraordinary. October brings peak foliage reflecting off the lake and the birchwood arch surrounded by color. Spring and summer work beautifully for the lakeside ceremony and outdoor spaces. Winter weddings here are intimate and dramatic. The venue photographs well in every season.

Is a rowboat really available for wedding photos?

Yes. The venue provides access to their rowboat for couple portraits on the lake. This produces images that look like nothing else from a New Jersey wedding venue.

Do you photograph weddings at Rock Island Lake Club?

Yes. If your wedding is here, I would love to hear about it.
