The Roundhouse in Beacon, New York manages to be both genuinely modern and completely Hudson Valley at the same time. An early 19th century factory carefully restored into a stunning event space — the industrial history is still visible in the bones of the building, but the light, the windows, and the design sensibility are entirely contemporary. I’ve photographed here twice and loved it both times. More at roundhousebeacon.com.
About the Roundhouse
Originally a factory, the Roundhouse sits on the Fishkill Creek in Beacon — a town that has transformed over the past two decades into one of the Hudson Valley’s most vibrant arts and culture destinations. The building’s restoration preserved the industrial character while adding the design quality and natural light that makes it one of the most photographically interesting venues in the region. Each space in the building has a completely distinct vibe, which is something most venues can’t claim.
The Spaces
The Waterfall Room
The ceremony space — floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the venue’s namesake waterfall. The light in this room is extraordinary. Natural, diffused, coming through large windows with moving water beyond them. One of the most beautiful ceremony spaces I’ve photographed at any Hudson Valley venue.
The Wheel Room
Exposed brick, original industrial wheels from the building’s factory past, warm and atmospheric. The perfect cocktail hour space and an excellent backdrop for wedding party and family group portraits.
The Roundhouse Room
The primary reception space — spacious, versatile, and customizable. The combination of the industrial architecture and the design flexibility means it photographs well in every configuration.
The Outdoor Patio
Overlooking the waterfall — intimate and inviting. My favorite spot for family portraits. Face away from the ceremony site and it’s also a wonderful location for sunset images.
The Getting-Ready Suite
This is one of the things I love most about the Roundhouse. The getting-ready rooms have good natural light, ample space, and a quality that makes getting-ready coverage genuinely beautiful rather than just logistically necessary. They also work well as first look locations.
The Waterfall
The waterfall itself is a defining feature of the venue and one of the most versatile portrait locations on the property. Cascading water, lush greenery, an intimate nook off the main spaces. It works for first looks, couple portraits, and ceremony backdrop images. I always incorporate it into the portrait route.
