Jaclyn and Jason’s wedding at ModernHaus and Twenty-Three Grand was a celebration that mirrored the couple’s gorgeous taste and the vibrant spirit of NYC’s Soho neighborhood. Every partner and creative collaborator, from Sara Landon Events’ meticulous planning to the gorgeous Vo Handmade invitations, the floral genius of Little Sister Creative, and Foil & Pin Studio’s impeccable hair and makeup, played a part in creating a memorable experience for the couple and their guests.
From Jaclyn getting ready in the penthouse suite to the first look on the Jimmy rooftop, everything was as elegant and meticulous as you’d expect a Modernhaus wedding to be. From dinner at Twenty-Three Grand to a disco-ball dance party, the day was vibrant, warm, and a fantastic party!
Wedding at Modernhaus and Twenty-Three Grand
Jaclyn and Jason’s wedding was the first time I’d worked at ModernHaus in SoHo — and I came in with an advantage. We’d stayed at the hotel the night before. Had dinner at Twenty-Three Grand on the outdoor deck above the street. By the time the wedding day started I already knew the light in the rooms, I’d walked the staircase, I understood the rooftop. That’s not nothing.
The Venue
ModernHaus is a building with a real history — built in the early 1900s, originally a warehouse, now a boutique hotel that kept the bones and updated everything else. Original exposed brick against contemporary glass fixtures. Reclaimed wood floors. Natural light that’s genuinely unusual for downtown Manhattan. It doesn’t feel like a wedding factory. It feels like a specific place.
The main lobby has a quirky modern grand staircase — not the sweeping traditional kind, but interesting and graphic. The rooftop terrace at Jimmy has panoramic SoHo skyline views. The glass-enclosed atrium at Twenty-Three Grand is bright and airy with natural light coming in from multiple directions. The hotel rooms themselves are well-designed with enough space and light for getting-ready portraits that don’t look like every other hotel room in the city.
Twenty-Three Grand
The restaurant sits on an expansive outdoor deck on the second floor, above the street. The night before the wedding we ate there and I was glad we did — knowing a space before you photograph in it changes what you see on the day. The food is genuinely excellent. If you’re considering hosting your rehearsal dinner here, do it.
Nearby Photo Locations
SoHo is one of the most photogenic neighborhoods in New York. The cobblestone streets, the cast-iron architecture on Greene Street, the Puck Building a few blocks away. Washington Square Park is about a mile south. The West Village is walkable. You have options in every direction.
Frequently Asked Questions: ModernHaus and Twenty-Three Grand Weddings
Where is ModernHaus located?
54 Thompson Street in SoHo, Manhattan — in the heart of one of New York City’s most photogenic neighborhoods. More at modernhaushotel.com.
What is ModernHaus?
A boutique hotel in SoHo built in the early 1900s as a warehouse and reimagined as a contemporary hotel that kept the original bones — exposed brick, reclaimed wood floors, natural light that’s unusual for downtown Manhattan. The building has genuine character rather than a renovated-to-look-interesting aesthetic. Events happen across multiple spaces including the lobby, a rooftop terrace, and the glass-enclosed atrium at Twenty-Three Grand.
What is Twenty-Three Grand?
The restaurant and event space at ModernHaus — an expansive outdoor deck on the second floor above the SoHo streets. It’s used for wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners. The food is genuinely excellent. If you’re considering the space for a rehearsal dinner the night before your wedding, it’s worth doing — knowing the space before the wedding day helps.
What are the best photo locations at ModernHaus?
The rooftop terrace at Jimmy for panoramic SoHo skyline views. The grand staircase in the main lobby for architectural portraits. The glass-enclosed atrium at Twenty-Three Grand for natural light. The hotel rooms themselves — well-designed with reclaimed wood and natural light that works beautifully for getting-ready portraits. And the neighborhood itself: SoHo cobblestones, Greene Street cast-iron facades, and Washington Square Park are all within walking distance. My SoHo wedding photo locations guide covers the surrounding neighborhood in detail.
What is the light like at ModernHaus?
Better than most downtown Manhattan venues. The reclaimed wood and natural light in the hotel rooms is genuine — not staged. The glass atrium at Twenty-Three Grand brings in diffused natural light from multiple directions. The rooftop catches the full SoHo sky. For a downtown hotel wedding, the light situation is unusually good.
Is ModernHaus good for intimate weddings?
Yes — it suits smaller, more curated weddings better than large productions. The spaces have character and intimacy rather than grand ballroom scale. Couples who want a SoHo hotel wedding with genuine design sensibility rather than a traditional venue will find it fits well.
Do you photograph weddings at ModernHaus?
I’ve photographed at ModernHaus and stayed at the hotel — which gave me a photographer’s perspective on the space before the wedding day even started. If your wedding is here, I’d love to hear about it. And for more on my NYC wedding work, my New York City wedding photographer post covers the full picture.
