I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Hey, I'm susan!

Wedding at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury

What.  Amazing.  Women.  Natalie and Jaclyn planned the perfect kind of Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury winter wedding : warm, intimate, charming, personal, sweet, emotional, and full of laughs and happy tears.  From trading places in the getting-ready suite at Shadowbrook to their heartwarming first look on the stairs, this entire day was flawless from start to finish.

Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury Wedding Photographer

Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury at 1 Obre Place in Shrewsbury, New Jersey is a 1907 Georgian mansion on 18 secluded acres in Monmouth County, 25 minutes from Manhattan. One wedding at a time. After a $30 million renovation in 2019, the grand ballroom has 30-foot ceilings, dueling grand staircases, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, a Big Swing band stage, and up to 600 guests. The original mansion spaces — Newport-inspired fireplace, the bridal suite rooms that were once actual bedrooms — are still intact and extraordinary. I photographed a winter wedding here and the warmth and coziness of those original mansion spaces in February was remarkable.

About the Venue

1 Obre Place, Shrewsbury, New Jersey, Monmouth County. Built 1907, $30 million renovation completed 2019. Family-owned. One wedding at a time. 18 acres of secluded private grounds. 150 to 600 guests. In-house catering, five-course dinner. Complimentary valet. 25 minutes from Manhattan.

The Spaces

The Grand Ballroom is the primary reception space with 30-foot ceilings, dueling grand staircases for the couple’s entrance, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, theatrical lighting, a Big Swing band stage, and two built-in bars. Up to 600 guests.

The original mansion’s main hall serves as the cocktail hour space, centered on the Newport-inspired fireplace. This was the original ballroom before the renovation — high ceilings, ornamental furnishings, old-world character. The outdoor patio with a water wall feature extends the cocktail hour space in warmer months.

The indoor chapel has windows on both sides overlooking the gardens, with heaters and fans for year-round use. Guests pass through a hallway with retractable screens — open in summer for an indoor-outdoor feel, closed in winter to insulate.

The salon has four salon stations, lounge seating, a kitchen area where the venue provides breakfast and lunch, and a separate dressing room with a three-panel mirror and elevated platform. The getting-ready suite consists of two conjoining original mansion bedrooms shared by the wedding party.

The dueling grand staircases for formal entrance coverage and first look portraits — these are among the most dramatic staircase entrances in New Jersey. The Newport fireplace during cocktail hour with the warm mansion light. The grand ballroom under the crystal chandeliers and theatrical lighting. The original mansion interior details — the ornamental furnishings, the high ceilings, the black and gold accents throughout. And the getting-ready suite bedrooms, which have the particular warmth and intimacy of actual historic rooms rather than purpose-built preparation spaces. Winter weddings here are especially beautiful — the cozy interior quality of those original mansion rooms photographs with extraordinary warmth against the cold outside.

Frequently Asked Questions: Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury Weddings

Where is Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury located?

1 Obre Place in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, in Monmouth County. Approximately 25 minutes from Manhattan.

What is Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury?

A 1907 Georgian mansion on 18 secluded private acres with a $30 million ballroom renovation completed in 2019. One wedding at a time. 150 to 600 guests. Grand Ballroom with 30-foot ceilings and dueling grand staircases. Newport-inspired fireplace cocktail hour space. Indoor chapel. Bridal salon with four stations. Getting-ready suite in original mansion bedrooms. In-house catering. Complimentary valet.

What makes Shadowbrook distinctive?

The combination of a genuinely historic 1907 Georgian mansion — with original rooms still intact and in use — and a $30 million grand ballroom renovation is unusual. Most venues are one or the other. At Shadowbrook the cocktail hour feels like being inside an actual Gilded Age estate, and then the reception opens into a soaring 30-foot ballroom with dueling staircases and theatrical lighting. The staircase entrance is one of the most dramatic in New Jersey. And one wedding at a time means the entire staff is focused entirely on your day.

Is Shadowbrook good for winter weddings?

Exceptionally so. The original mansion spaces — the fireplace, the warm interior light, the historic character — come alive in winter in a way that is genuinely beautiful. The indoor chapel is heated. The getting-ready suite rooms photograph with extraordinary warmth against winter light. I photographed a February wedding here and the cozy intimacy of those spaces in the cold was one of the most compelling indoor winter wedding atmospheres I’ve encountered in New Jersey.

Do you photograph weddings at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury?

Yes. If your wedding is here, I would love to hear about it.
