I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Engagement Session at The Beekman Hotel

There aren’t many indoor spaces in New York where you can shoot an entire engagement session without needing backup plans, hiring an Etsy witch to change the weather, or a miracle. That’s why The Beekman Hotel is such a rare find. It’s one of the few locations in the city where you can book a shoot inside a beautiful space and know exactly what you’re getting. An engagement session at The Beekman Hotel offers dramatic architecture, structured light, and a rare chance to shoot at one of NYC’s most visually layered spaces.

As of the time of writing, a two-hour photo permit costs $500. That gets you access to the lobby, the atrium, and a corner of the concierge lounge. For couples looking for a session that feels intimate, stylish, and weatherproof, it’s a solid investment.

The Light and Architecture Do the Work

The Beekman is a former office building turned luxury hotel, and the bones of the place are still very much intact. The atrium rises nine stories, with wrought-iron balconies wrapping around each floor. From the ground level, it feels almost like standing in a theater—open above, lined with detail, but still enclosed and quiet.

The light falls in from the glass ceiling above, filtering down into the space throughout the day. If you schedule your session earlier, you’ll get a mix of natural light and ambient fill from the warm interior fixtures. Later in the afternoon, the mood becomes moodier, my favorite kind of vibe.

The concierge-level area offers a softer contrast—wood-paneled walls, lower ceilings, and a few tucked-away chairs and corners that work well for seated portraits. It’s a good place to transition to toward the end of your session, especially if you’re looking to slow down the pacing or switch to a second outfit.

Why Indoor Spaces Matter

Most of NYC’s popular engagement session locations are outside: parks, rooftops, city streets. And while those are great, they come with a lot of variables—weather, foot traffic, light that changes by the minute. Sometimes you want something more controlled. Sometimes you want to get dressed up without worrying about wind, mud, or figuring out where to change outfits.

That’s where The Beekman stands out. It provides you with all the texture and depth of an ample visual space without the unpredictability that typically comes with shooting outdoors.

Make It a Full Day

If you’re going to book a session here, it’s worth making an experience out of it. Plan lunch, bring a change of clothes, and turn it into a day you actually enjoy, not just something you check off a to-do list.

A few easy places nearby:

  • Crown Shy is just a short walk away, making it a great choice if you want to sit down after your session for an authentic meal and a drink. Their lunch menu is just as strong as dinner, and it’s close enough that you don’t need to get back on the subway right away.

  • Manhatta is more of a destination—worth it if you want skyline views and a longer, more celebratory meal. Reservations help, especially if you’re planning around golden hour.

  • Pisillo Italian Panini offers a different vibe—fast, casual, and great for when you just want to grab something and keep moving.

If you’re staying in the area or planning your session close to sunset, you can also head down to the South Street Seaport or Pier 17. It’s a nice contrast to the interiors—wide open views, waterfront light, and a little space to unwind.

Frequently Asked Questions: Beekman Hotel Engagement Sessions

Where is The Beekman Hotel located?

123 Nassau Street in downtown Manhattan, steps from City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge. Easy to get to from anywhere in the city and close enough to DUMBO for a post-session walk if you want outdoor portraits as a bonus.

How much does a photo permit at The Beekman cost?

As of the time of writing, a two-hour permit costs $500. That gives you access to the lobby, the nine-story atrium, and a corner of the concierge lounge. It’s a meaningful investment — but for a session that’s completely weatherproof with extraordinary architecture, it’s worth it.

What areas of The Beekman are included in the photo permit?

The lobby, the atrium, and the concierge lounge area. The atrium is the centerpiece — nine stories of wrought-iron balconies rising above you, glass ceiling overhead, warm interior light mixing with natural light from above. The concierge lounge gives you a softer, more intimate contrast for seated portraits or a second outfit change.

What’s the light like at The Beekman?

It changes throughout the day in a way that works in your favor. Earlier sessions get a mix of natural light from the glass ceiling and warm ambient fill from the interior fixtures. Later afternoon goes moodier — lower, richer, more dramatic. Both are beautiful for different reasons. I’d say earlier for bright and airy, later if you want something more cinematic.

Why shoot indoors for an engagement session?

Because New York City outdoor sessions come with a long list of variables — weather, foot traffic, wind, mud, light that changes every ten minutes. The Beekman gives you all the texture and depth of a visually extraordinary space without any of that unpredictability. You can get dressed up, bring a second outfit, and know exactly what you’re walking into.

How long should a Beekman Hotel engagement session be?

Two hours is the standard permit duration and it’s enough time to work through the atrium, the balcony levels, and the lounge area without rushing. If you want to extend into outdoor portraits nearby — the streets of downtown Manhattan, City Hall Park, or a quick trip to DUMBO — build extra time into your day.

What should we wear for a Beekman Hotel engagement session?

The hotel’s aesthetic is warm, dark, and rich — think deep jewel tones, warm neutrals, classic silhouettes. Avoid anything too casual or too bright. The architecture is doing a lot of work, and your clothing should feel like it belongs in the space. A second outfit change is worth considering — the lounge area has a completely different feel from the atrium.

Do you photograph engagement sessions at The Beekman regularly?

Yes — it’s one of my favorite indoor session locations in the entire city. If you’re interested in booking a Beekman engagement session, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re also planning a wedding in New York, my NYC wedding photographer post covers the full picture of what I do in the city.
