Mallard Island Yacht Club at 1450 NJ-72 in Manahawkin, New Jersey is surrounded by Barnegat Bay on multiple sides and manages to feel genuinely intimate despite its scale. The Boathouse Chapel with the stacked stone fireplace and floor-to-ceiling bay views. The Grand Ballroom with its dramatic Tiffany blue coffered ceiling. The Gothic outdoor plaza modeled after Princeton University’s architecture. And the 3,000-square-foot penthouse bridal suite on the entire fourth floor — in-suite salon, rainfall shower, natural light pouring in. I have photographed here and the combination of grand architecture and that particular quality of water light off Barnegat Bay is extraordinary.
(And also? We REALLY need to talk about that huge shower space, you could practically throw a party in there, it’s huge)

About the Venue
1450 NJ-72, Manahawkin, New Jersey. Surrounded by Barnegat Bay. 60 miles from Philadelphia, 100 miles from New York City. Managed by Merri-Makers Catering — all catering in-house. Up to 250 guests in the ballroom. 10 private guest rooms on the property for overnight stays. Weddings starting around $50,000. Exclusive use of the estate for your event.
The Spaces
The Boathouse Chapel is the signature ceremony space. Floor-to-ceiling windows with Barnegat Bay views on all sides. Stacked stone fireplace. Crystal chandelier. Metal beam ceiling customizable with drapery. The water light coming through those windows during a ceremony is unlike anything available at a standard ballroom venue.
The Grand Ballroom features a dramatic Tiffany blue coffered ceiling — the defining architectural element of the venue and genuinely unlike anything else on the Jersey Shore. Up to 250 guests. Some guest rooms have small balconies that open directly over the dance floor, which creates an unusual layered portrait opportunity during reception coverage.
The Gothic outdoor plaza, modeled after Princeton University’s Rathskeller architecture, has grand archways and ornate ceilings. Used for cocktail hour. The combination of that Old World architectural character against Barnegat Bay behind it is visually striking.
The Marina Level is the downstairs space — a high-end coastal bar aesthetic, used for cocktail hour overflow and after-parties.
The lush lawn and extensive dock provide outdoor ceremony and portrait locations directly on the bay.
The Getting-Ready Spaces
The 4th floor penthouse suite is 3,000 square feet occupying the entire top floor — in-suite salon with leather chairs, a rainfall shower, and natural light from every direction. It is called the Crown Jewel of the club and the description is accurate. There is enough space for a full wedding party plus a hair and makeup team with room to spare. The other getting-ready suite is housed in a restored former army barracks and clam shack — a completely different character from the penthouse, with its own history built into the walls.
Photography at Mallard Island Yacht Club
The Boathouse Chapel ceremony with Barnegat Bay visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind the couple. The Gothic plaza during cocktail hour with the archways and bay views. The Grand Ballroom under the Tiffany blue ceiling. The dock extending into the bay for couple portraits — the water and sky in every direction. The penthouse suite with its extraordinary natural light for getting-ready coverage. And sunset over the causeway bridge — the sun sets across Route 72, not directly over the water, so knowing where to position for portraits at golden hour matters here. I know exactly where to go.
