501 Union is one of my favorite Brooklyn wedding venues. I lived nearby at one time. I know the neighborhood well. And every time I shoot there I remember why.
The Grand Ballroom
At the heart of 501 Union lies the Grand Ballroom, a space where elegance and history converge to create a stunning setting for wedding receptions. As guests step into the ballroom, they are greeted by the warmth of its refined industrial charm.
The high ceilings adorned with skylights allow natural light to cascade over the polished concrete floors, creating an inviting atmosphere. The ballroom’s neutral palette and open-plan design offer a versatile backdrop, adaptable to any wedding theme or color scheme.
Accommodating up to 160 guests, this space is not just about size; it’s about the possibilities it presents. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, the Grand Ballroom at 501 Union transforms into a reflection of each couple’s unique vision, making every celebration a one-of-a-kind experience.
The Ceremony Space
For the ceremony, 501 Union offers a distinct space that exudes intimacy and elegance. This area is a harmonious blend of the building’s industrial past and modern design elements. The space is characterized by its striking balance of old and new, where historical textures meet contemporary style.
It’s an intimate setting, ideal for sharing vows, with a capacity that makes it perfect for gatherings that range from small, family-only affairs to larger, more festive ceremonies. The ambient lighting sets a serene mood, while the architectural details add a touch of grandeur to the proceedings.
This ceremony space at 501 Union is more than just a location; it’s a canvas where couples can create a moment that truly reflects their love story.
Photography Locations at 501 Union
For wedding photography, 501 Union presents a variety of captivating backdrops. The art-deco inspired bar, with its sleek design and ambient lighting, offers a sophisticated setting for intimate couple shots. The lounge area, characterized by its plush seating and contemporary decor, provides a chic and comfortable space for candid moments.
Beyond the interiors, the building’s exterior, with its striking facade and historical significance, adds an urban edge to the wedding photos. Each corner of 501 Union tells a different story, making it a favorite among photographers who seek to capture the essence of each couple’s special day in a setting that is both unique and meaningful.
Why I love 501 Union
First of all, I adore the neighborhood. It’s close to where I live, and it has a wonderful Brooklyn feel while still being a comfortable, lived-in, cozy space. It’s a great place to walk around for outdoor photos, there are loads of restaurants for guests arriving days before for the wedding, and it’s just so very Brooklyn.
I also simply love the venue. The ceremony space is bright and airy, working well for daytime bright-lit weddings but also for nighttime candlelight-romantic ceremonies. It’s got a great indoor-outdoor feel, which is super unique in a city venue. It’s a great place also for indoor portraits if you happen to have rain on your wedding day.
The bar is awesome. It’s a great spot for cocktail hour and it also flows naturally from the ceremony space to the bar then into the reception ballroom. The architecture is beautiful and unique, and it’s a warm, cozy space.
The skylights in the reception ballroom are beautiful. During the day they’re dramatic and bright, and as the sun sets during the reception it provides an extra unique lighting effect. It’s a large space while still feeling comfortable.
As a wedding photographer, 501 Union is a treat to work at!
Conclusion
501 Union, with its rich history, versatile spaces, and picturesque settings, stands as a testament to the perfect marriage of past and present. It’s a venue that not only hosts weddings but celebrates them, offering a unique and memorable experience for every couple.
If your wedding is at 501 Union, I’d love to hear about it.
