I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns Venue Guide

Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, Westchester is one of the most extraordinary wedding venues in the New York area. A working four-season farm on 80 acres, home to one of the most celebrated farm-to-table restaurants in the world, with a HayLoft ceremony and reception space that photographs unlike anywhere else I shoot. I’ve photographed here several times and want to shoot here many more. More at bluehill.com/stone-barns.

About Blue Hill at Stone Barns

Chef Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns was named to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2015. The farm is a nonprofit — the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture — dedicated to sustainable farming and food education. The venue itself is the farm’s historic buildings, brought back to life with care and with a commitment to keeping the agricultural character intact. It is farm chic in the truest sense, without the affectation.

The Spaces

The HayLoft

The primary ceremony and reception space. Vast windows full of gorgeous light. Stone walls with beautiful texture. Candelabra-style lighting hanging from exposed iron beams that creates a warm wall of shadow and light against the stonework. Farm-style tables stretched across aged hardwood floors. Old-world charm with modern temperature control. This space photographs unlike any ballroom — it has weight and warmth and agricultural history in every surface.

The Dooryard Garden

The outdoor ceremony location — beneath soaring stone silos, with vines woven through wood and stone and a European sophistication that feels completely natural in the Hudson Valley countryside. One of the most beautiful outdoor ceremony settings I’ve photographed.

The Farm and Grounds

Eighty acres of working farmland, woodland, gardens, and historic stone buildings. Barn doors with climbing vines, honeysuckle, tall grasses, livestock in the distance. Every direction is a portrait. The property is a canvas that makes the work easy.

The Food

A custom, four-course cocktail menu followed by a unique seasonal meal created from ingredients grown on the farm. This is the food that made Blue Hill famous — farm-to-table before the phrase existed, executed at a level that consistently places the restaurant among the best in the world. Couples who choose this venue often say the meal is what their guests talk about for years.

What to Know Before You Book

Blue Hill at Stone Barns requires all wedding couples to hire a coordinator. This is not optional. The venue has significant gatekeeping — it is not a venue you can simply book and run yourself. The coordinator requirement exists because the farm and the restaurant are working operations and the event must integrate with both. If you don’t have a coordinator when you reach out to the venue, you’ll need to engage one before the booking process can move forward.

This is worth knowing upfront. It adds to the overall cost and the planning timeline. It is also, in my experience, part of why weddings here run as smoothly as they do.

Frequently Asked Questions: Blue Hill at Stone Barns Weddings

Where is Blue Hill at Stone Barns located?

630 Bedford Road in Pocantico Hills, New York — in Westchester County, approximately 25 miles north of Manhattan. More at bluehill.com/stone-barns.

What is Blue Hill at Stone Barns?

A working four-season farm and one of the world’s most celebrated farm-to-table restaurants, operated on the grounds of the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, Westchester. The venue hosts weddings in the HayLoft — a stone barn with vast windows, exposed iron beams, and candelabra lighting — and in the Dooryard Garden beneath historic stone silos.

What makes Blue Hill at Stone Barns distinctive as a wedding venue?

The combination of the physical space and the food is genuinely unmatched. The HayLoft has a quality of light and texture that no ballroom can replicate. The Dooryard Garden ceremony under the stone silos is extraordinary. And the meal — custom, seasonal, farm-to-table at the level of one of the world’s 50 best restaurants — is what guests remember for years.

Does Blue Hill at Stone Barns require a wedding coordinator?

Yes. A coordinator is required by the venue for all weddings. This is not optional. If you don’t have one when you first reach out, you’ll need to engage one before the booking process can proceed. Factor this into your budget and planning timeline from the start.

What are the best photo locations at Blue Hill at Stone Barns?

The HayLoft interior during ceremony — that window light is extraordinary. The Dooryard Garden for outdoor ceremony coverage. The stone buildings and barn doors with climbing vines for couple portraits. The farmland itself, with livestock in the background and the Hudson Valley landscape stretching out behind you. Every direction on this property is a portrait.

What is the light like at Blue Hill at Stone Barns?

The HayLoft has floor-length windows and wood doorways that create abundant natural light throughout the day. The candelabra lighting on the iron beams creates beautiful warm ambient light for evening reception coverage. The outdoor spaces catch the Hudson Valley light — particularly beautiful in the late afternoon and at golden hour when the farm goes warm and golden.

What time of year is best for a Blue Hill at Stone Barns wedding?

All four seasons work here in distinct ways. Spring for the farm coming to life. Summer for lush greenery and long warm evenings. Fall for Hudson Valley foliage that is genuinely extraordinary around the stone buildings. Winter for the spare, dramatic quality of the farm in cold light with the stone structures as anchors. The venue operates year-round.

Do you photograph weddings at Blue Hill at Stone Barns?

Yes, several times, and I want to shoot here many more times. If your wedding is at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, I’d love to hear about it. And for more on my Hudson Valley and Westchester work, my destination wedding photographer post covers what shooting outside the city looks like.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns is one of those venues where the farm, the food, and the light all work together to create something genuinely extraordinary. If yours is here, I’d love to be there for it.
