About Blue Hill at Stone Barns
Chef Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns was named to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2015. The farm is a nonprofit — the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture — dedicated to sustainable farming and food education. The venue itself is the farm’s historic buildings, brought back to life with care and with a commitment to keeping the agricultural character intact. It is farm chic in the truest sense, without the affectation.
The Spaces
The HayLoft
The primary ceremony and reception space. Vast windows full of gorgeous light. Stone walls with beautiful texture. Candelabra-style lighting hanging from exposed iron beams that creates a warm wall of shadow and light against the stonework. Farm-style tables stretched across aged hardwood floors. Old-world charm with modern temperature control. This space photographs unlike any ballroom — it has weight and warmth and agricultural history in every surface.
The Dooryard Garden
The outdoor ceremony location — beneath soaring stone silos, with vines woven through wood and stone and a European sophistication that feels completely natural in the Hudson Valley countryside. One of the most beautiful outdoor ceremony settings I’ve photographed.
The Farm and Grounds
Eighty acres of working farmland, woodland, gardens, and historic stone buildings. Barn doors with climbing vines, honeysuckle, tall grasses, livestock in the distance. Every direction is a portrait. The property is a canvas that makes the work easy.
The Food
A custom, four-course cocktail menu followed by a unique seasonal meal created from ingredients grown on the farm. This is the food that made Blue Hill famous — farm-to-table before the phrase existed, executed at a level that consistently places the restaurant among the best in the world. Couples who choose this venue often say the meal is what their guests talk about for years.
What to Know Before You Book
Blue Hill at Stone Barns requires all wedding couples to hire a coordinator. This is not optional. The venue has significant gatekeeping — it is not a venue you can simply book and run yourself. The coordinator requirement exists because the farm and the restaurant are working operations and the event must integrate with both. If you don’t have a coordinator when you reach out to the venue, you’ll need to engage one before the booking process can move forward.
This is worth knowing upfront. It adds to the overall cost and the planning timeline. It is also, in my experience, part of why weddings here run as smoothly as they do.
Nearby Hotels
The Tarrytown House Estate — historic hotel in nearby Tarrytown, beautiful grounds, a short drive from the farm.
Castle Hotel and Spa — luxury hotel in a historic castle in Tarrytown, elegant getting-ready spaces.
Courtyard by Marriott Tarrytown — modern and convenient, my personal favorite for getting-ready photos in the area.
