Emotional wedding photography is the key to having photos that you’ll never forget about. With this spring 2024 wedding at The Foundry in Long Island City, I was able to capture beautiful and intentional moments as the day unfolded, and I’ll be sharing them with you throughout this blog post.
As a NYC wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy of photographing wedding celebrations of all types, but The Foundry is one of the most unforgettable wedding venues, so I’m always excited to capture a day there. I even photographed a wedding there previously, which you can learn more about here. With a courtyard, greenhouse, terrace, and 3,000 square feet (yes, you read that right), it’s easy to see why The Foundry is really an oasis, but more on that later.
So, are you ready? Let’s dive into The Foundry wedding venue and the emotional wedding photography I captured there.
About The Foundry Wedding Venue
The Foundry is a historic venue known for its “raw space.” (Yes, this is literally what’s on their website, so I’m not making that up!)
The venue includes a lot of space, including an ivy-covered courtyard with Queensboro Bridge views, a 1500-square-foot kitchen, a greenhouse with brick and ivy, a terrace with Queensboro Bridge and Manhattan skyline views, a pool room for getting ready, a mezzanine, and more. It’s truly a space with so much character that you can either dress up or dress down for your wedding day – it’s one of those venues that you can truly make your own.
The exposed beams and brick interiors featuring arch-shaped cut-out areas make it even more charming.
The History of the Venue
New York City is filled with historic venues, and The Foundry is no exception. This building dates back to the 19th century and once served as a metal foundry. You can even see the logo of The Albra Metal Foundry on the building if you look at the corner of 9th Street and 43rd Avenue.
The venue was abandoned in the 1970s but was purchased shortly after by a family who completely renovated the space. By the early 2000s, they were hosting events there. There are lots of bits and pieces of its character and history throughout the building, which is what makes it so unique. Plus, it’s the only foundry that you can find in this area of New York today!
The Foundry Amenities
Okay, okay – you’re probably starting to wonder what the amenities are at this incredible venue.
When you rent The Foundry out for your wedding, you’ll get access to the base inclusions like the courtyard, main space, kitchen, etc.
You can pay an additional fee to rent out the other areas of The Foundry in addition to the base spaces – these are only available as add-ons, as far as I know. This includes spots like The Terrace and the Greenhouse.
You will have to bring your own caterers, vendors, and rentals. With your caterer, you should be able to coordinate rentals for items like glasses and tables.
If you are having your wedding in the winter or in the heat of summer, you can also rest assured that The Foundry has both air conditioning and heating so you and your attendees can be comfortable. For guests who aren’t driving to the venue, nearby subway lines are only about a 10-minute walk away, like the E, 7, W, and a few others.
Rehearsals are also available at The Foundry. However, they aren’t able to confirm rehearsal dates until a week out because they can only book one event a day, so that is something to keep in mind.
If you need any portraits or engagement photos prior at The Foundry, you are able to rent out The Foundry Terrace if needed as an addition.
The Foundry NYC Wedding Cost
If you want the most up-to-date information about the cost of a wedding at The Foundry, then you’ll want to check out their website and get in touch. Some venues do have pricing that fluctuates depending on the day of the week or even the time of year, so I like to suggest my couples always reach out directly to venues for information regarding pricing. Plus, pricing may change from year to year.
Be sure to take the time to see if your date is available as well. The Foundry does have an online calendar that makes this easy. I’d recommend touring the space, too, so that you’re able to see the beauty of the venue before saying yes. To book, they require a 50% deposit, with the remainder due the week of your wedding.
Emotional Wedding Photography with Yael and Ilan
Now that you know all about the wedding venue, I wanted to show you the beauty of emotional wedding photography there! In spring 2024, I was able to photograph Yael and Ilan at this venue, and the photos really show the story of the day as it unfolded.
You can take a peek at some of the photos below. It was so much fun photographing Yael and Ilan getting ready, the details and decor of their big day, solo and couples portraits, the family and wedding party, cocktail hour, and the ceremony… and of course (one of my favorite parts) the reception.
Emotional wedding photography is amazing because it really shows unfiltered moments that make each love story one-of-a-kind. I’m all about preserving genuine emotions that unfold as the day occurs, from tearful vows to happy laughter at toasts.
