I capture the unspoken — the glances, the silences — drawing from New York's pulse and the richness of global cultures. Every wedding is its own intricate narrative. Rooted in theatre and life's everyday rhythms, I document moments both transient and timeless.

Hey, I'm susan!

The Lake House Inn Wedding Photography

Tucked away on the shores of Lake Nockamixon in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, The Lake House Inn is one of those rare wedding venues that makes a photographer genuinely excited. With nearly 6,000 acres of state parkland surrounding it, this AIA award-winning property delivers the kind of natural beauty and thoughtful design that translates beautifully into wedding day images.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing weddings at The Lake House Inn, and every time I pull into the property, I’m struck by how removed it feels from the everyday world—even though it’s only about an hour from Philadelphia and ninety minutes from Manhattan. It’s a destination wedding experience without the airfare.

The Venue Itself

The Lake House Inn began its life as a 19th-century general store and post office, serving as the heart of its community for over 150 years. The renovation honored that history while transforming it into something decidedly modern: a fourteen-room boutique inn with spa-like interiors and a contemporary aesthetic that feels both warm and sophisticated.

For wedding photography, the property offers a remarkable range of settings within a single location. The historic inn features exposed brick, original architectural details, and abundant natural light from oversized windows. The stone wine cellar provides moody, intimate backdrops for portraits or small gatherings. And the Billiard Lounge—complete with a pool table and widescreen—is perfect for casual getting-ready shots with the wedding party.

The Boathouse Ballroom is something special. This rustic-chic space features rough-sawn cypress wood on the exterior, a 27-foot draped ceiling with uplighting, Murano glass chandeliers, a borderless dance floor, and walls of glass that can be opened to let the lake breezes in during warmer months. The water views from this space are simply stunning, and they photograph beautifully at any time of day.

The Light at Lake House Inn

As a photographer, I think about light constantly, and The Lake House Inn delivers exceptional opportunities throughout the day.

Morning light at the lakefront ceremony site is soft and flattering, perfect for couples who prefer earlier celebrations. But the real magic happens in the late afternoon and early evening. The ceremony amphitheater overlooks Lake Nockamixon, and when the sun begins its descent, the lake shimmers while the sky washes through coppers, golds, pinks, and violets. Golden hour portraits here are the kind of images couples frame and hang on their walls.

For indoor photography, the inn’s large windows flood the getting-ready suites with natural light—the kind that makes skin glow and details shine. The main suite’s balcony offers panoramic views for those behind-the-scenes moments with your wedding party, and the contrast between the modern interiors and the natural surroundings creates visual interest in nearly every frame.

Ceremony and Outdoor Spaces

Most couples choose to exchange vows at the lakefront ceremony site, where a terraced amphitheater descends toward the water. The backdrop is simply the lake and the surrounding parkland—no additional decoration needed, though many couples add floral installations or an arbor.

The award-winning terraced landscaping and gardens provide multiple settings for portraits without ever leaving the property. There are lush garden areas, stone pathways, rustic corners, and of course the waterfront itself. The stone facade of the inn makes a beautiful backdrop for intimate first-look moments, while the more remote corners of the property offer privacy for couples who want quiet moments away from guests.

Cocktail Hour and Reception

After the ceremony, guests typically head to the inn for cocktail hour while the couple steals a few minutes alone. The cocktail spaces include access to the stone wine cellar, where a sommelier can lead tastings—a unique touch that guests remember. Servers circulate with hors d’oeuvres while bartenders pour signature cocktails, and the atmosphere is relaxed and celebratory.

The Boathouse Ballroom handles receptions beautifully. The combination of rustic architecture and elegant details photographs well without requiring extensive décor, though couples certainly have room to make it their own. The borderless dance floor fills up easily, and those glass walls mean the lake views never disappear, even as the evening progresses.

Jeffrey Miller Catering handles all food and beverage at The Lake House Inn, and I’ve consistently heard rave reviews from couples and guests alike. From the photography perspective, beautifully plated food and elegant presentation make for stronger detail shots—something worth considering when you’re thinking about your overall wedding gallery.

The Overnight Experience

What sets The Lake House Inn apart from many venues is the overnight component. With fourteen luxuriously appointed guest rooms (some reviews mention up to eighteen rooms including newer additions), your closest friends and family can stay on-site, turning your wedding into what couples often describe as the ultimate slumber party.

For photography, this means relaxed getting-ready coverage without the stress of coordinating arrivals. Everyone is already there. It also means incredible opportunities the morning after—couples grabbing coffee on the terrace, the wedding party recovering together, quiet moments by the lake before departing.

The fire pit after-party has become a beloved tradition at Lake House Inn weddings. After the formal reception ends, the celebration continues outside with pizza, s’mores, and drinks under the stars. These late-night moments often produce some of my favorite candid images—shoes off, ties loosened, everyone finally exhaling.

Planning Your Lake House Inn Wedding Day Timeline

Having worked at this venue, I can offer some timeline suggestions specifically for photography:

For spring and summer weddings: Consider a late afternoon ceremony to capture golden hour during portraits. The light on the lake between 5 and 7 PM (depending on the month) is extraordinary.

For fall weddings: The surrounding state parkland puts on a spectacular show with autumn foliage. The colors reflecting on the lake add warmth and dimension to every outdoor image.

For winter weddings: Snow transforms the property into something magical. The contrast between the warm, candlelit interiors and the crisp winter landscape outside creates dramatic storytelling opportunities.

Build in transition time. The property has multiple levels and spaces, and you’ll want to enjoy each one rather than rushing between them. I always recommend padding the timeline to allow for relaxed portraits and unexpected moments.

Locations Near The Lake House Inn for Photos

The property itself provides more than enough variety for a complete wedding gallery. But if you’re interested in exploring the surrounding area, Nockamixon State Park offers additional options: quiet trails, waterfront access points, and natural settings that feel worlds away from city life.

For couples who want something different, the charming towns of Bucks County offer covered bridges, historic buildings, and small-town character. These can work well for engagement sessions or day-after shoots if you’re extending your celebration.

The main reception space at The Lake House Inn — rustic-chic with rough-sawn cypress exterior, a 27-foot draped ceiling with Murano glass chandeliers, a borderless dance floor, and walls of glass that open to lake views. It’s one of the most photogenic reception spaces in the entire region.

What’s the best time of year for a Lake House Inn wedding?

Fall is extraordinary — the foliage surrounding Lake Nockamixon turns brilliant in October and November, and the golden hour light over the water at that time of year is something I photograph and still think about. Spring is beautiful and lush. Summer works well for the open-air ceremony amphitheater. Winter is intimate and dramatic.

What are the ceremony options at The Lake House Inn?

The lakefront ceremony amphitheater is the signature spot — it overlooks Lake Nockamixon with the parkland behind it and produces extraordinary photographs at any time of day. There are also indoor ceremony options within the inn itself for couples who want something more intimate or need a rain plan.

What’s the light like for photography at Lake House Inn?

Exceptional at almost every hour. The getting-ready suites have large windows with soft natural light. The Boathouse Ballroom has those glass walls that let the lake light in. And late afternoon at the lakefront ceremony site — when the sun drops toward the water and the sky goes copper and gold — is the kind of light that produces the images couples frame and hang on their walls.

How far is The Lake House Inn from Philadelphia and New York?

About an hour from Philadelphia and ninety minutes from Manhattan. It’s a destination wedding experience without the airfare — close enough for guests to travel easily, remote enough to feel completely away.

Do you photograph weddings at The Lake House Inn regularly?

Yes — it’s one of my favorite venues in the Pennsylvania/New Jersey region. If your wedding is here, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re still exploring options in the area, my Philadelphia wedding photographer post covers what I do across the broader region.

The Lake House Inn is one of those venues that makes every photographer’s job better. If your wedding is here, I’d love to hear about it.
